Bugonaygeshig Upperclassmen have been representing Leech Lake well over the last few days at the 2025 Close Up Native Youth Summit in Washington D.C.! Between presenting on our community, touring, conferences, and crafting their Tribal Action Initiatives, students have also made new friends from other Native Nations across the country.
We will be having our Giveaway Pow Wow on April 25th .
Grand Entry will begin at 1pm with an Elders Feast starting at noon.

Bug O Nay Ge Shig Families - Road reports tonight are all pretty negative, with packed ice and freezing slush on most roadways. We will be utilizing an E Learning Day on Monday, March 24th. Teaching staff will be available throughout the day to help with work. If you have to travel, please be safe. Miigwech.
The Bug O Nay Ge Shig Sugarbush Camp is in full swing near the school. Each classroom will have the opportunity to experience all phases of the process from identifying and tapping the maple trees to boiling down and processing the syrup. The finished syrup will be shared with community elders.
Our trip for "If The Dress Fits" is going to be rescheduled for next week.

In preparation for March’s “I Love to Read” week, the kindergarten through sixth grade students at the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School competed to see who could make the best book mark. This year’s winners are Tala Graves, first place, Diana Kingbird, second place and Estaban Ramiz Diaz and Malina Wind tied for third place. The winners each received prizes and copies of their bookmarks will be available to all students.
Boozhoo Bugonaygeshig Families. The Bugonaygeshig and Leech Lake community have had a number of funeral services over the past few days, with another scheduled for tomorrow. This is impacting many of our staff, and we want our people to be able to attend services for those they’ve lost. This means we won’t have adequate staff to safely operate a full school day tomorrow, including transportation and classroom supervision. So, we’re going to cancel school on Monday, March 10th out of respect for those services. We will resume our normal schedule on Tuesday, March 11th. Miigwech for your understanding, and let the kids know we look forward to seeing them on Tuesday.

Due to a shortage of drivers, we are cancelling after school activities for Thursday, March, 6th.
Tonight, there will be no after school activities. Students will be riding their regular buses home. Miigwech!

Wacky Wednesday: Dress Crazy BUT school Friendly! Clothes backwards, mis matched and or bring a joke to share.
Thursday: "Dr. S's Sleep Book" & "If I Ran the Zoo" Wear pajamas or something with animals on it.
Friday: Let's Celebrate Reading! Wear a reading t-Shirt or readable clothing. Wear a sign.
We had a lot of fun activities around the school for our 100th day!

Bug O Nay Ge Shig Families - We are going to be cautious in the morning and start 2 hours late. This will give us time to get buses going after such a long sit in cold weather, and make sure we can get everyone to school safely in the daylight. Buses will be 2 hours later than normal, and school will start at 10:15. We're looking forward to having the kids back, and to stringing together some regular school days!

Gooooooood morning! This is the kind of morning when making the decision about school is particularly hard. Our threshold for closing is -25, and Deer River is -32, Bemidji is -27, and Walker is -24. As much as we'd like to see the kids today, we will need to be closed on Wednesday, February 12th. Safety first. Stay warm and enjoy your day, Silver Eagles!

Temps and wind chills will exceed the limits of our policy (-20 air temp; -30 windchill) in most of the Bugonaygeshig region, so buses will run two hours late. School will start at 10:15, and we will look forward to seeing you then, Silver Eagles!
