
Bug O Nay Ge Shig School proudly hosted the Leech Lake Honor Guard at their Opening Ceremony on Veteran’s Day. The Honor Guard stood at attention while the drummers sang the Flag Song and Veteran’s Song. After the ceremony there was a breakfast for the Honor Guard and veterans at the school.

We had a fun Halloween Dance!



The Student Council at Bug O Nay Ge Shig High School sponsored an afternoon of Halloween events last week. There was face painting, pumpkin carving, cookie decorating and more. The Senior Class also entertained the elementary students with a Spooky Room.

Several Bug-0-Nay-Ge-Shig students are grabbing the opportunity to learn about Robotics at the Cass Lake High School this year. Robotics is one of the after-school activities that are now open to Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig students, due to a new system of cooperation between the two schools. The Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig students have been learning about the program from Cass Lake coach, Jesse Frost, and his students. They were invited to participate with the Cass Lake students in the recent Northern Minnesota Robotics Conference hosted by Bemidji High School on October 25-26. During the conference the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig students helped both the boys’ and girls’ teams. The boys’ team won second place on Friday and first place on Saturday.

Last week, the Bug O Nay Ge Shig Student Council sponsored a Dodgeball Tournament between Advisory Groups. The second place winners were the 10th graders after being defeated in a close match by the Champion 8th graders!!


Bug O Nay Ge Shig’s 3-4th grade enjoyed a field trip to Grand Rapids to see a Children’s Theater Production of “Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” recently.


Last week, our Niigaane students enjoyed a visit to the home of Ningaabii’anook (Geri Howard) in Cha cha ba ning. She has been a much loved Niigaane elder and consultant for many years.


Bug O Nay Ge Shig High School students attended the Leech Lake Youth Forum on 10/15 at Cass Lake-Bena HS. They are shown in a session called “Why Treaties Matter”. They also had sessions on Drugs and Recovery and a performance by “Tall Paul”.


BugOnayGeShig’s Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Niiganne K-2 took a trip to Fuller Farms in Bemidji!
Students were able to enjoy a picnic lunch, hayride, feeding goats, play in corn pit and went on a story book walk!

Boozhoo Bugonaygeshig Parents & Guardians! Last week we received an invite for our 7th-12th students to attend the Leech Lake Youth Summit, organized by the Wiidookodaadiwag Coalition & the Cass Lake-Bena School District! We were able to quickly organize and now all of our 7th-12th graders will be able to attend the Youth Summit tomorrow, October 15th!
Bugonaygeshig students will travel to school and return home from school at their regular times. After getting breakfast, students will board busses and head to CL-B at 9am. They will get to participate in sessions about vaping, a motivational presentation by Tall Paul, and get to learn "Why Treaties Matter" as led by Levi Brown. We will return to Bugonaygeshig at 3:15 so students can make it home at their regular times. Lunch will be provided, and our Bugonaygeshig students will be accompanied by all of their 7th-12th grade teachers as well.

The Seasonal Activities Class of Bug O Nay Ge Shig High School recently picked Swamp Tea (Lavender Tea) . After cleaning and packaging it, it will be given to community elders.


Bug O Nay Ge Shig Middle and High School students recently participated in a display called “We are Water with more than 10 interactive displays. It took place at the Leech Lake Tribal College Library.

Bug O Nay Ge Shig School recently held their Fall Feast and Giveaway. Elders and other guests received gifts of birchbark, beadwork and dry goods.

The Seasonal Activities class at Bug O Nay Ge Shig gathered cedar and made cedar ties to hang in each of the doorways of classrooms.

At Bug O Nay Ge Shig High School, the Seasonal Activities class has been busy completing the processing of wild rice. The process included fanning, cleaning and cooking the rice.





Bug O Nay Ge Shig senior high students enjoyed a trip to the BSU College Fair which included representatives and materials from over 40 higher education institutions.
